So this guy calls us up and leaves a voice mail about buying EzineArticles.com… because it’s been down for the past 3 days and he thought we might be for sale.
At first, I couldn’t figure out what the heck he was talking about because our 3rd party monitoring service (Keynote’s RedAlert) indicated that we have had perfect uptime for the past month.
Then I realized…
He was one of the people that we blocked from viewing our website.
About a month ago, we began banning any IP address that surfs our website beyond several thousand views per day or month.
Our Terms of Service only allows a publisher to reprint 25 articles per 12 months and we assume that anyone (who is not a search engine) that crawls our site by the thousands of views per day, everyday, can not possibly be a human casual surfer.
We intend to begin prosecuting sites that violate our terms of service for copyright infringement. It’s a sad reality that we have to even consider addressing this, but there are always a handful of unscrupulous people out there.
