3 Ways to Maximize Profits When Selling Websites

By Travis Van Slooten

The best part about flipping a website is finally making the sale. You already take every step to maximize profits along the way, buying sites at the best price and optimizing them properly, and the selling process is no different. There are steps you can take to sell your site for extra or, at the least, get you sale some more visibility and appeal to potential buyers. Rather than you listing blending in with the other generic ones out there, there are some things you can do to help your site stand out a little more.

Use a Great Title

Your listing title is your first and perhaps best chance to shine among a horde of other sites for sale. Let's face it. A site listing for "Website about Losing Weight" would hardly get a second glance from possible buyers, simply because they really can't see anything new there. However, if you have something like "Website Shedding Light on Groundbreaking New Weight Loss Techniques," you sure have a better chance of standing out from the rest of the pack. In addition, the site sounds like something that was created with a lot of energy and creativity put into it. Buyers would want to believe that some of that enthusiasm would show on the site.

Emphasize Your Site's Strong Points

While it may be tempting to go heavy on the details about your site, the fact is that potential buyers only want the straight facts. They want to cut through the fluff and know exactly how much your website makes in a month, what kind of traffic they can expect and what its search engine rankings are. The title is the flashy part of your listing that grabs the attention, but the details about the site should be information rich. In fact, they can be so concentrated that you might just find a series of bullet points with short descriptions to be the most effective.

The Proof is in the Pudding

Don't just expect the potential buyer to accept your word that your site is attractive and functional. Even though the details include vital information on how much the buyer should expect to make from the site and what kind of traffic they will see, they still need to see the layout and design. While photos are good for this, a video is even better. You can take videos of your computer showing you actively navigating the site and showing off its functions. These videos can be hosted for free so that anyone can view them. This shows the buyer that you are serious about the sale and that your site is every bit as good as you claim.

These three tips are not groundbreaking information. In fact, they may seem like pretty standard stuff. But you might be surprised how many people put all the effort into buying a site for a great price and getting it optimized without making their sale listing as attractive as it should be. If you go the extra mile to make your listing appealing when selling websites you will see more potential buyers and, thus, a higher potential sale price.
